The Developer Tab is very useful Tab in Microsoft Office 2010, It has few useful commands in Microsoft Word 2010. Developer Tab is not visible in the Microsoft Word 2010 ribbon by default. If you want to use any commands from Developer Tab then you have to enable Developer tab in Microsoft Word 2010. If you have switched from Word 2007 to Word 2010 then you will find some change in options to show Developer tab in Word 2010.

I had a problem in which the developer controls were disabled/greyed out, and I could not access them. I finally figured out that it is likely a Microsoft Word 2010 thing. What I did to solve this (after much frustration) was to do a “save as” on my document and change the TYPE of document. Save it as “Word Macro-Enabled Document” (*.docm)”, instead of a .doc document or .docx document. Once you do this, go back into your document and the controls will miraculously enable themselves!! I am posting this here in case any one else is frantically trying to figure this problem out. Good luck.
